Parents of gifted children often notice as early as in the 2 nd or 3 rd year of their childs life that it is somehow different. Oftentimes it is the childs thinking that seems to differ from that of peers. These differences in thinking do not go without affecting the childs emotional life and its behaviour.
It is very important for the well being of the child, for its development and for family life if the parents soon find a competent person to talk to, who can stand by and conribute his/her experience to their efforts to understand and advance their child. Just simply having a kindergarten teacher who knows the child well to talk to and exchange conjectures of a possible giftedness can make all the difference.
As an indicator of the willingness to talk and a guideline for such discussions about giftedness the Parent Questionnaires in Chapter 5.2 may be useful.
